Is Squarespace or Wix better?

I’m glad you asked. There are a lot of ready-to-go website builders out there, but Squarespace and Wix seem like they are making the largest splash in the market. They both have great features and we wouldn’t be able to choose which one we like better because they serve the needs of different clients. For starters, we designed this site using Squarespace and are grateful that we did so let’s get into it. Here are the benefits of both platforms:

Wix

In general, Wix is very user-friendly and is highly customizable (down to the size and shape of buttons). We like this because we are able to make your website very unique down to where buttons and contact plugins are placed.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Features

We like that Wix has an App Market where you can add a number of widgets to a site. Depending on the site we are building and the needs of the client, we found that Wix has more versatility in this area.

We designed a website called Testimony Tees & Things with automated emails for post-purchases, abandoned carts, and email subscriptions which was really fun to do. The process of setting them up was easy and didn’t require a lot of work on the backend either.

Templates

Wix has templates similar to Squarespace. What we like about Wix templates is that they are highly customizable and have grid lines that help us when we are designing on the platform. Their templates are a whole vibe.

Cost

Affordable. Sometimes Wix offers a FREE domain with an annual subscription. Paying monthly is usually more than purchasing an annual plan. Purchasing an annual plan will help you save a few coins. Business plans begin at $23 per month and go upwards of $49 per month.

Now to Squarespace…

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Squarespace

In general, Squarespace is sleek, and great if you are looking for a modern, minimal website. Again, this is how we think about this platform based on our experience.

Features

Most of their features they offer are simple and easy to install. That’s not a bad thing, though. Sometimes simplicity is key in business. Google Analytics is built-in for business accounts and we like that as well. SEO is easier on Squarespace because their sites already have SSL security and their site maps are built-in. If you’re looking to add a blog to your site, Squarespace does well in delivering on this feature.

If you are looking to transfer your domain over to Squarespace, the process can be a little tricky. We had to reach out to support because their tutorial was not easy to understand. If you are looking to purchase a new domain and buy one of our website development packages, you can do that as well.

Templates

Squarespace has nice templates for some specific categories. If you are a photographer or would like to display your work, they have great templates for that. Like we mentioned before, most of their templates are minimal and have less customization in regard to design elements. Their landing pages are great as well!

We like that Squarespace has its own email system built into the platform similar to MailChimp. You can manage your email subscriber lists there and create unique emails. Let’s just say that Squarespace has better email templates aesthetically.

Cost

Affordable. They start at $18 per month for a business website and go upwards of $40 per month for an advanced e-commerce site. We advise you to pay for what you need, not what you want. If you use this strategy, you’ll realize that your investment will be worth it in the long run.

In Conclusion…

You may be asking yourself what is the best website builder. If you’re interested in working with us to bring your vision to life using a website, we can use the Squarespace or Wix platform to build it on. It’s really up to you. We advise you to do your research on both and get started with your FREE 30-discovery call. We’ll discuss our website development packages and how we can service the needs of your business.
